Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, known worldwide simply as Shakira, was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She became a world-famous singer, dancer, composer, actress, and philanthropist, captivating millions with her vibrant voice, sensual movements, and original songs.

Her career began at an early age. One day, her father introduced her to the doumbek, an ethnic drum used in Eastern music and to which belly dancing is performed. It was then that little Shakira realized she wanted to perform on stage. At school, she met a girl who taught her oriental dance. Since then, she has performed in Barranquilla at various events. Soon, her popularity as a talented singer and dancer spread far beyond Latin America.

Shakira's unique creative work lies in her ability to harmoniously combine elements of different musical traditions: Colombian rhythms, Arabic motifs, Latin American melodies, and Western pop compositions.
